The Dan Schrag Prompts

We hope this edition of Ecosystemic finds you well. If you are a student, we hope you are keeping up with school–– this time of the year can be a lot. If you are an adult, we hope you are keeping up with life-related endeavors–– it can also be a lot.

Our third edition, the one this note intends to introduce, is a very special one; thus, we will be doing things a little differently. In October, I (Elson) attended a climate strike and met our current Literary Editor, Audrey. I love Climate Strikes, meeting passionate people, and preaching the good word of Ecosystemic and SEASN, so naturally, I asked for Audrey’s email–– which she eagerly wrote down on my notes app–– and in late November, she presented an exciting interview opportunity. These two terms, interview and opportunity, are what this edition was initially based upon (the former) and what we instantly saw it could provide (the latter).

The goal of our magazine and SEASN at large is to inform and inspire. So, with that, it is my great honor to “introduce” Dan Schrag–– Professor of Environmental Science and Engineering at Harvard University and Director of the Harvard University Center for the Environment. Dan also co-directs the Science, Technology and Public Policy Program at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School. He has served under the Obama Administration and is a recipient of the MacArthur Genius Grant. Something else that I personally admire about Dan is the niche and important work he has done at the American Repertory Theatre to produce climate-related theatrical productions. This is so cool to me, I truly could go on and on.

Besides his impressive career, Dan has been an engaged supporter of our publication, our insights, and the youth movement at large. Following our nearly two-hour-long interview, the editorial board saw it necessary to unpack the topics discussed. So we brainstormed a series of prompts based on the content discussed. This includes visual prompts, literature prompts, and article prompts. We are excited to present you all with the resulting pieces produced in Ecosystemic Edition Three: The Dan Schrag Prompts.

Enough contextualization! Please enjoy reading what our amazing contributors have created for you.

All the best,

Elson and The Editorial Board
