The Principles and Mission of Ecosystemic

We recognize the impact and importance of the dissident press. Newspapers, magazines, artwork, and writing have historically been great catalysts of social change in our world. These mediums hold the potential to spark curiosity, educate, inspire, enrich, and demand action. The ongoing fights for environmental justice, economic equality, and the liberation of the oppressed may be strengthened through our words and art. With this great responsibility in mind, we strive to uplift youth narratives, promote storytelling, draw attention to the realities of our world, and demand and detail change.

We recognize that this ecological crisis has been caused disproportionately by the wealthy and most adversely impacts the poor and the marginalized. We deem the climate crisis a violation of human rights. Inaction will only lead to greater suffering.

We recognize that many of us live in locations that have been subject to colonization, and we acknowledge these lands to be stolen from Indigenous Peoples and upheld by oppressive systems. We recognize the terrible legacies of colonialism to our Earth and acknowledge that Indigenous Peoples have long fought for environmental stewardship and continue to wage this battle today.

We are run by high school students and empower each other to fight for and protect our future. We embrace our role as the next generation and take agency over the fate of our world. There are few spaces dedicated to the voices of high school students, so we aim to amplify our perspectives and inspire greater change. We believe that students live unique experiences that inform powerful ideas, and that they represent a new generation of activists, policymakers, educators, researchers, and writers. Our world stands to benefit from the commitment and innovations of its youth. Ecosystemic intends to communicate these innovations and demonstrate this commitment to make the public aware of pressing issues and to initiate dialogue between students and those in power. We work to enact change through this collaboration.

We recognize that our society inequitably silences valuable voices that have the power to better the world. One writer may face greater obstacles toward finding an audience or receiving respect than another because of a difference in race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, or other key identity. We are committed to providing all with the opportunity to share their work, ideas, and influence. We work to uplift underrepresented perspectives.

We accept all submissions and consider all pieces carefully before publishing them. We do not tolerate any hate or prejudice, and we encourage thoughtful and respectful dialogue at all times. We aim to publish works that uplift our common humanity, promote empathy and care, share facts and thoughtful perspectives, and demand change.

Writing and art may serve as the backbone of societal change. With your help, as readers and contributors, we may amplify our impact and democratize our press. We may inform and educate countless allies and call for necessary change. We face a challenge of great proportion, yet we can inspire greater change working together rather than standing apart. A movement is nothing but a name without empowered and passionate advocates.
